- Description
The Fall of the Fitzmaurices, tells the story of the demise of the Fitzmaurice family, who had been powerful Lords of Kerry, since the year 1235. By 1818, after over five hundred years as Kerry’s premier family, through a combination of extravagance, irresponsibility, and feckless living, their titles and estates were no more. A potent story of power, wealth, land, money, and sex among the Irish aristocracy in the 18th century.
HI Kay,
Sorry to use this space for a question, but I was having trouble e-mailing you otherwise. I just have a quick question. I’ve had great luck doing my family research and irishgenealogy.ie has been very helpful, but anything before 1800 is really hard to find. My family is from Lixnaw and still lives there. Do you know of a good source of information about that area from the time period before 1800? Thanks.

Donald, sorry you had trouble emailing me. Its on the Home page of my website http://www.MyKerryAncestors.com. To reply to your question – as you know Church marriages and baptisms in Lixnaw are available on http://www.IrishGenealogy.ie from 1810. This is regarded as really early compared to most to most parishes! However, in the case of Lixnaw the only other place to get lists of tenants would be through the archives of Lord Listowel or before that it would be the archives of Francis T Fitzmaurice, 3rd Earl of Kerry. I have copies of this paperwork myself – there are 8 boxes in the National Archives of Paris but as of yet I have not had time to go through all of them. There are some tenants names mentioned in my book The Fall of the Fitzmaurices: The Demise of Kerry’s First Family. A lot of the documents from these archives are available to view at the National Library of Ireland sl
