Subject Information | File relates to successful claim by subject’s mother. Cornelius Keating drowned on mission from Irish Volunteers General Headquarters, Dublin, to Tralee, County Kerry in connection with Sir Roger Casement’s landing in preparation for Easter Rising. (See file 1D484 regarding death of Daniel (Domnall) Sheehan.) File refers to claimant’s husband and seven surviving children: four sons and three daughters. One daughter, Mary Keating, applied unsuccessfully under 1953 Act. According to letter of 15 August 1927 in file 1D484 (Daniel Sheehan) written by Fionán Lynch, then Minister for Fisheries, a third man, Charles Monaghan (or Monahan), was also drowned. |
